Zoolander 2 is in the Works
Movie lovers, get excited. The 2001 cult classic film, Zoolander, is coming back with a sequel. That’s right, after months of speculation Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller officially announced Zoolander 2 earlier this week. Of course in true Zoolander fashion, the two stars made a surprise appearance at Paris Fashion Week, which included them strutting their stuff down the Valentino runway.
These celebrities completely took over the catwalk, making sure to steal the spotlight from all the gorgeous models. Stiller, who plays Derek in the movie, wore a custom Night Butterflies brocade suit with a hand-embroidered overcoat and black Creeper shoes. Wilson, who is known as Hansel in Zoolander, came out wearing a Silk Continent print Pajama suit with Double Cashmere overcoat and Open sneakers.
This news shouldn’t be too surprising, though, to fans of the comedy film. Back in December, Wilson told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview on her show that there was definitely a possibility of a sequel. He said, “Well, I don’t mean to be coy, but I know that there’s a script and Ben is considering it. So we’ll see. We have to do it.” One month before that, Deadline even reported that Penelope Cruz had signed on to star in the follow-up film alongside Stiller, Wilson and Will Ferrell.
Zoolander 2 is apparently going to follow Derek around as he is forced to reinvent himself in the constantly evolving world of male modeling. Justin Theroux, who is Jennifer Aniston’s fiance, actually wrote the script, while Stiller will act as not only the main star but also the director. Back in 2010, Stiller revealed that this would be the eventual premise of the sequel. He said in an interview with MTV, “In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it’s changed—it just happens so quickly. I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it’s 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves.”
Zoolander 2 will officially hit theaters on February 12, 2016. Are you excited?
