Chris Brown’s name is back in the headlines, and it’s not for anything good. The CEO of Death Row Records, Suge Knight, was hospitalized early yesterday morning after being shot by an unidentified figure at a nightclub in West Hollywood. So, what does Brown have to do with this? Well  the 49-year-old, whose real name is Mario Knight Jr., was at that very nightclub because he was attending a party that Brown was hosting. The party, held at 1OAK club, was in honor of the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, which was set to take place the next day. At the time, numerous shots were heard, as Knight and two others were hit. Police have made it clear that an investigation into the matter is underway.

A witness of the shooting recently spoke out about the matter, stating, “You could hear the gunshots very clearly. The entire club hit the ground and people were being escorted out with their hands up. Chris’ entourage covered him up pretty quickly and were pushing him out the door to get out. I did not see the gunshots but saw Suge Knight walking out and getting into the police car.  Obviously the whole place was pretty shaken up.”

After getting shot, Knight was taken to a hospital, where he needed to get surgery to treat his injury. As of yesterday morning, he was in stable condition with “non-life-threatening” wounds. It’s not clear yet if Knight was the actual target of the shooter or if he just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. If you’re wondering what Brown had to say about this shooting, he took to his Twitter yesterday to comment, “It’s disappointing that we as a society can’t have fun or enjoy ourselves without any altercations sometimes.”

Besides hosting, Brown did perform at the nightclub as well. In addition to recognizing the VMAs, this party was meant to be a celebration of the release of his upcoming sixth studio album, X.  Brown was nominated for one award this year and was still in attendance last night, despite the altercation.
