What Happened to the ‘N SYNC and Backstreet Boys Reunion at SNL 40?
Who tuned into Saturday Night Live’s 40th Anniversary show on Sunday night? If so, you probably noticed that the highly talked about ‘N Sync and Backstreets Boys reunion didn’t happen. What the heck?! Growing up as a 90s child, I was looking forward to this for days.
Over the weekend, ‘N Sync even tweeted about making an appearance at the special event. They wrote, “Together again…Gee, it’s good to be together again #SNL40.” Then, SNL themselves confirmed to the world that the Backstreet Boys were going to be in attendance too. What went wrong? The boy bands were noticeably absent from the red carpet, stage and the audience as a whole.
According to a source at E! News a performance by the ‘N Sync was never planned for the night. Instead, a bunch of the guys just wanted to come out to the 40th anniversary special and show their support. Apparently, JC Chasez wasn’t even there because his sister-in-law just gave birth. As far as the Backstreet Boys go, AJ McLean and Howie D were the only two members that actually tweeted about going. Nick Carter wasn’t in attendance since he was in the middle of recording new music.
Sigh. Well, Lance Bass tried to warn us beforehand that a ‘N Sync reunion wouldn’t be happening on the show. A few hours before showtime he tweeted, “For the record, we are not performing or doing a skit tonight on SNL. But look hard for us in the audience! Fun night ahead! #SNL40.” Even with that said, I couldn’t help but get my hopes up that there would be SOMETHING for us 90’s fans to enjoy in the three hour plus telecast.
Not going to lie, I’m pretty disappointed that so many members of iconic boy bands were all together in one room and there was nothing done about it. What do you think? Were you as heartbroken as me? Sound off!
