Gwyneth Paltrow Rocks Signature Blowout in New Ad
If you are a fan of Gwyneth Paltrow, or have at least been keeping up with the latest Hollywood gossip, you know that she’s joining celebrity hairstylist David Babaii to team up with Blo Blow Dry Bar. While we found this out back in May, the ad is finally here. After months of speculation, this ad is…not what I expected. I thought that we’d get an advertisement that featured Ms. Paltrow and her famous blonde locks. Not quite.
Instead, the ad was put together by Babaii’s favorite illustrator, Megan Hess. In other words, the ad consists of a picture of Paltrow, not a real life image. Hess has illustrated for a bunch of fashion’s biggest names like Chanel, Balmain and Dior. At first when I heard this, I was like ‘what?!’, but this drawing is pretty spot on to Paltrow. In fact, her blue eyes look almost real. Even with that said, though. I still don’t get why the advertisement didn’t just feature a photo of Paltrow. Her hair alone could sell this product.
In the advertisement, you’ll notice that Paltrow’s hair looks very voluminous. This is quite a switch for the actress, who is known for always having stick-straight hair. Hmm, do you think that was part of the reason Blo Blow Dry Bar decided to just go with a cartoon version of the actress? This way they could really play up the hair in a way they wouldn’t have been able to with Paltrow?
In my opinion, at the end of the day, what matters most here is recognition. While Paltrow may not have actually graced this advertisement, the cartoon image will serve the purpose. People who see this advertisement will automatically be able to tell it is Paltrow, and that is enough to sell off one of their products. What are your thoughts?
