Ghostbusters Cast Revealed
There has been talk for a while that an all-girl Ghostbusters was in the making. Well get ready folks, it’s happening. Paul Feig, who will be directing the film, has cast Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Feig confirmed the casting news by sharing pictures of all four actress-comediennes on Twitter. Hey, isn’t Twitter how we get all our news nowadays?
That means with an all-girl cast, the four principal characters that Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson took on in the 1984 original will now be women. The remake will be quite the reunion for a bunch of these stars. You may recall that Feig directed stars McCarthy and Wiig in “Bridesmaids”. Then, like Wiig once was, Jones and McKinnon are known for their current gig on “Saturday Night Live”.
I wonder if Bill Murray would be interested in making a cameo in the film. After all, he was pretty adamant that he didn’t want to star in a third Ghostbusters movie, but maybe a quick scene would be okay with him now that the ladies are in charge. In fact, in a recent interview with “Access Hollywood”, Murray acknowledge the planned female-centric remake and called it a “grand idea”. He then even went on to suggest both McCarthy and Wiig for roles. Remember, this was well before they landed the parts. He said, “Melissa would be a spectacular Ghostbuster. And Kristen Wiig is funny—God, she’s funny!”
Okay, so we have our main roles filled but there leaves out question: Who is going to play Janine? Fans of the Ghostbusters movies will know that she was the guys’ secretary who crushed on Egon, liked to read and played raquetball. She was originally played by Annie Potts so this role is going to be transformed into a guy now, right? I’ve heard some people throw up the suggestion Eddie Redmayne and that would be fine by me. I think he would do a fantastic job and he’s been gaining so much popularity lately. Or Ryan Gosling. Always Ryan Gosling.
