Daytime Emmys Red Carpet Hosts Spur Controversy
Did any of you catch the Daytime Emmy Awards last month? Wow, what a train wreck!! For those of you who did not get a chance to tune in, where do I even begin? Okay, well here goes. Usually, the Award show is televised every year, but this time around the powers that be decided to livestream it instead. Since it was going to be an online only type of thing, it made sense that The National Academy of Television Arts & Science would hire four of social media’s most popular personalities. Well that is it made sense in theory. This ended up being a horrible, horrible decision.
The livestream hosts, Brittany Furlan, Lauren Elizabeth, Jessica Harlow and Meghan Rosette, were just a disaster in every sense of the word. Not only were all of their interviews completely unprofessional (did you see them hit on every single guy in attendance?), but they also spewed way too many racy jokes. The women clearly knew next to nothing about soap operas, as they decided to use their red carpet time to ask the stars crazy inappropriate questions. In fact, at one point Harlow asked “Bold and the Beautiful” star Lawrence Saint-Victor, “What’s it like to be a black man on a soap opera these days?”. This of course was after she had to declare that he is “a beautiful chocolate man.” I can’t stop cringing!!!
Oh but it gets worse…much worse. While Furlan was interviewing “General Hospital” star Ryan Paevey, she decided to make a rape joke, stating “We’re going to get you away from us before we rape you.” How she can say something as offensive like that without even hesitating is beyond me. Of course these kinds of heinous comments set off a whole chain of reactions on Twitter, where soap stars and fans alike were letting these women have it.
What are your thoughts on these red carpet hosts? Was your jaw left open wide like mine was the whole time when watching the livestream? Do you think the Daytime Emmys should issue an official apology over this? Sound off!
