Where do I even begin with my commentary on this year’s nominees? While I’m super happy names like Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton got the nominations they rightfully deserve in major categories like Male Vocalist of the Year, I’m a little surprised by how many nominations Miranda Lambert picked up. In fact, she received the most nominations out of any artist, being placed in a whooping 9 categories. I think Lambert is an amazing woman and some of her songs are incredible (“Over You” and “The House That Built Me”…hello), but I personally don’t feel her latest album, Platinum, was strong enough to garner that many nominations.
Then, there’s the fact that Taylor Swift only received one nomination and that wasn’t even in the category of Entertainer of the Year. I have to admit that may have shocked me the most. Isn’t that a first? Lastly, I have to make it known just how excited I am that artists like Cole Swindell and Thomas Rhett picked up nominations in the New Artist of the Year category. They are so underrated in the country genre and I couldn’t be any more excited that they are finally being recognized. Good luck to all this year’s nominees. Can’t wait to watch the award show later this year.
